A self-help article by Issac Vinu
When most of us look at change, we see it as a destroyer, a crusader ready to abolish the last drop of happiness within us. Welcoming change might seem like a dire and tortuous process, but I believe mankind has progressed to understanding the depth of the very same.
When we are growing up, we are put in unfamiliar deep trenches, we let ourselves fear change like a knot we can’t untangle. What we don’t realize is, change is better compared to a puppy than a destructive crusader. Change isn’t really for us to fear; it is merely an excuse to reinvent yourself.
One thing I learned from that experience, never give in to the pressure, never let your past consume you. Whenever you feel that things are changing, remember that it’s always for the better.
My advice? The pressure and expectations of our society are huge, doesn’t mean you have to succumb to it. Set a definite goal for yourself and work towards it, if you don’t reach it then next time, change is not the end of your world, in-fact it’s the very beginning of it.
More than me showering you with generalized advice, you need to learn to experiment. When things are changing, use the opportunity and expand your comfort zone.
Understanding change can be a difficult process. It requires patience and tolerance that only the ideal can possess. We are not perfect, none of us are, but we can work towards making ourselves better. The first step to that is adapting to change.
Let’s dive deeper into change itself; change is defined as an act or process through which something becomes different.
The first step in overcoming change is understanding how it affects you. Whether it’s at school or at home, grasping what part of your life the change takes place in helps a lot.
After fully taking in the premise of change, we need to investigate the depth of the same. Understanding how deeply the change roots itself into the affected part and how drastically it is going to alter your view on crucial subjects supports us in fully understanding a major part of it and aids us in accepting it.
Now that we analyzed the change itself, lets investigate positives. Look into how your lifestyle would improve from it, list down advantages of transitioning into change. Create a sense of mutual understanding and belonging between the change and you.
Wait a minute, what about the negatives of change, do we not acknowledge the elephant in the room?
Ah yes, welcome to problem solving 101, to completely weigh out the negatives, you need to find a way to work around them.
Talk to the people that you feel are stopping you from accepting this change, show them how it would be better if he/she could help you adapt to it. Address the negatives, don’t let it slide.
Keep in mind one thing, the only one person stopping you from accepting change is yourself, so go ahead and tell yourself it will be alright.
By now you’ve become a master of the change. You know the premise of it, you’ve analyzed it’s depth inside out, you’ve kept in mind the positives and you’ve worked around the negatives.
So there remains only one thing, welcoming the change itself.
At this point of time, you are not afraid, you have prepared yourself mentally for it and you are willing to accept it. So, go ahead, welcome the change, and realize there was nothing to be afraid of in the first place.
My teacher once told me “change is the only constant in a life full of variables”, to tell the truth these very words inspired me to write this today. If an 11-word sentence can spawn an 824-word article, then why do we limit ourselves to change when we can embrace it and watch great things happen.
Life is never smooth sailing, troubled waters exist every step of the way, change is like our very existence, inevitable.
